- Provision of educational facilities, counseling, career guidance and skill development facilities for the children of the workers at the village.
- Provision of Financial support to the workers.
As of March 2009, we are happy to announce the plans we have at IIT Kanpur. Professor H.C. Verms in charge of Ray of Hope’s Operations there. He wants to drive the “Siksha Sopan” program to provide education to deserving children who come from the challenged section of the society.
The following were Professor Verma’s recommendations:
To teach the pass-out students of 10th Standard or 10+2 Standard students
The above pass-outs are literally at cross roads. They can’t even express what they know. Ray of Hope’s volunteers can teach them courses like Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, and English. The teaching medium should be Hindi only. Ray of Hope members can also join Prayas or vice versa.
To Fund the education of 4 challenged but very bright students
A few volunteers, including Prof. Verma have chosen 4 of the brightest students from the laborer’s children (around 150 in the campus) after conducting a written test. These kids were in 4th class then. The students have now joined at Kanpur’s best CBSE School. The sponsorship would continue until they finish 10+2.
Currently, the expenses fall in the following range per candidate per month:
- Fee: Rs. 800
- Transportation: Rs. 450
- Books & others: Rs. 250
- Total – Rs. 1500 p.m. X 4 students = Rs. 6000 X 10 months in a year = Rs. 60,000 p.a.
Currently, this is at a standstill due to financial problems; and we request anyone and everyone to lend a helping hand to give a chance to many other bright kids can get the chance to learn from the best possible schools.
An unfinished dream of IIT Kanpur Ray of Hope volunteers
A few faculty & experts in some fields have an unfinished dream. Prof. Verma told us that they want to establish a vocational training centre at IIT-Kanpur by the name “Ray of Hope Vocational Training Centre”; so as the help disadvantaged students falling in the age group of 15-18. These students need to develop some skills which can earn them at least INR. 2000-3000 per month; so as to survive.But setting up such a voluntary centre requires a high level of funding which. The expertise to run the centre will be provided by Ray of Hope’s Volunteers at IIT-Kanpur backed by the core team of Ray of Hope International.
Prof. Verma says that it’s an unfinished dream & Ray of Hope can make it come true.
